This particular cameo has been hand-carved into what appears to be a sardonyx shell. These have a background that are light to medium brown in colour, which offers the contrast between the white carved foreground and background colours.
This cameo features beautiful three-dimensional aspects with the buildings and figures being physically tangible. This brooch is 2 ¼-inches in length and 1 ¾-inches wide and has a total weight of 19.5g.
The casing surrounding the cameo is has no karat stamp, however it has been tested as 14k yellow gold.
