This rectangular box is crafted with a silver exterior and inner wood lining, featuring a silver hinged lid that is secured with a segmented tab. The exterior is decorated with three, three-clawed dragons on a textured background, wrapping around the sides and top of the box, telling of the era and culture of which it came from. Notoriously symbolic and of high importance in the Chinese culture, dragons are a traditional staple in decorative elements and representing long-standing cultural and economic relationships between China and Europe.
The box approximately measures 95.03mm (w) x 168mm (l) x 58.18mm (h), with a weigh of 575 grams, and features the stamping “NK” for Nanking Store, Shanghai (c.1845-1940), and a Chinese marking on the bottom. There is some light wear such as minor scratching on the bottom, and dark patina on the dragon details.
